ePlus ecosystem at Startup Europe Comes to Silicon Valley

Michael O’Connor from the EBAN Board attended Startup Europe Comes to Silicon Valley to represent ePlus, by participating in panels, investor sessions and mentoring. SEC2SV Week was dedicated to improving the understanding of the increasingly dynamic European startup ecosystem in Silicon Valley, with plenty of opportunities to showcase ePlus and all that it has done in helping European entrepreneurs develop their skills and companies.

Michael O’Connor spoke about ePlus at a panel discussion entitled “Startup heavens in Europe” chaired by Burton Lee (Stanford University), with panellists from Estonia, Malaga, and London. The benefits of ePlus as well as EU Commission projects in general were discussed and contrasted with the situation in the US. The panel also highlighted the depth of angel activity in Europe together with accelerators and the quality of life giving tech teams the platform to scale from a single market. Silicon Valley and the growth of San Francisco was regarded as the critical network to build strategic alliances and then raise linked strategic funding rounds.

On the second day of the event, at the famous Computer History Museum, pre-selected European Scale Ups were mentored and advised by a team of entrepreneurs that financed and exited similar businesses, including Michael O’Connor. This day also included workshops with the European Commission team for new public policy direction. EBAN was in the same team team with an ex-London founder of MS Ventures, another SF VC and Ignacio Puente from DG Research on the theme “Access to Finance”.

Part of the workshop was to identify operational methods of hiring and retaining talent, planning and timing of funding and the practices and expectations around IPOs and M & A. The teams played an active role with the Commission on hackathons to streamline tech policy. ePlus was discussed here in the context of the policy hackathon organised by Dell.

Startup Europe Comes to Silicon Valley was a great event where ePlus was well represented by Michael O’Connor. European Business Angel Network is glad to keep representing such a great project at many more future events to come.
